The SBA is commemorating Native American Heritage Month with a virtual symposium to highlight resources that support underserved small business owners.  

 

Join the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Assistant Administrator, Office of Native American Affairs, Jackson S. Brossy; along with New England Regional Administrator Mike Vlacich and Massachusetts District Director Bob Nelson as we introduce you to the Office of Native American Affairs and highlight resources and opportunities to start and grow your business!

Jackson S. Brossy
Assistant Administrator

Mr. Brossy serves as a senior executive providing executive oversight, management, leadership, and championship of Native American entrepreneurship.

Before SBA, Mr. Brossy served as executive director for both the Native CDFI Network, a 501(C)(3) advocacy group, and the Navajo Nation Washington Office, the official intergovernmental affairs office for the largest tribe in the nation. An advocate of access to capital and technical assistance for Native entrepreneurs, Mr. Brossy also serves on the board of Prosperity Now, Change Labs, and the Federal Reserve Bank’s Center for the Indian Country Development Leadership Council.

He is an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation and attended Stanford University and Harvard University.

Wampanoag Tribal Administrator

Mr. David Greendeer currently serves as the Tribal Administrator for the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe; as the senior Vice President, Sovereign Nations for Uphealth, Inc.; as Principal CEO for Esovereignty, LLC; formerly served as Vice -Chairman of Twelve Clans, Inc., Section 17 federally chartered corporation of the Government at Ho-chunk Nation in Wisconsin. David is dynamic and a versatile Native American leader working with Native American Governments and Native American Corporations focusing on Education, Economic Development and Gaming industries. With 24 years of collective tribal experience in private sector business development, governance and education, David has the skills and experience to maintain equilibrium various governance levels to generate positive impacts and growth to organizations, shareholders, employees and communities. David also served as the Ho-Chunk Nation Executive Director of Business managing Class 3 Casinos, one Class 2 casino, and two ancillary sites. As well as HCNLegislator, an elected official representing 11 counties and over 2,000 constituents, for the sovereign Ho-Chunk Nation of Wisconsin.

Steven is responsible for the development of historical exhibits, content and interactive attractions that challenge historical myths. His work can be seen on Newbury Street in Boston, the Box Museum in Plymouth England, the Museum De Lakenhal in Lieden, and the Pilgrim Hall Museum and Provincetown Museum in Massachusetts. In addition, he provided the creative direction for the traveling exhibit “Our” Story: 400 Years of Wampanoag History, an exhibit that has been featured in Time Magazine, New York Times, BBC Radio and many other national and international publications for its ability to correct historical inaccuracies.

Steven holds a B.S. in marketing and communications from Bridgewater State University and is a graduate from the Community Leadership Institute.

Stephanie Malia Hutch is the Founder, President, and CEO of Makai, LLC a Native Hawaiian Owned (NHO) 8(a) firm headquartered in Massachusetts. Makai specializes in C5ISR, DoD weapons systems integration, and modernization of wired and wireless networks. Makai owns and operates the Gemini 5G Lab, located in Lincoln, MA next to Hanscom AFB. Gemini Lab specializes in practical 5G technology applications through testbed and business innovation and is a mission critical partner solving challenging DoD problems. Gemini Lab utilizes 5G open-spectrum Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS), a 150 MHz wide broadcast band of the 3.5 GHz band. As a vendor-agnostic test and evaluation (T&E) center, the Gemini Lab team is able to serve as a solutions integrator to reduce operational risk and speed up capability delivery to the warfighter. Makai works closely with U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, U.S. Special Operations Command, and industry partners to develop and test various mobile 5G network configurations across multiple classification levels.

National Small Business Week Awards Nominations are Due Soon!

Throughout the pandemic, the American entrepreneurial spirit has helped us propel our
nation forward. The Biden-Harris Administration is helping America’s small businesses rebuild and strengthen the U.S. economy and we would like to honor these individuals for their resiliency and achievements during SBA’s 2023 National Small Business Week.

If you or someone you know has an inspiring small business success story to tell, submit a nomination for the SBA’s National Small Business Week Awards. All nominations must be submitted electronically no later than 3:00 p.m. ET on December 8, 2022. Winners will be announced during National Small Business Week in May 2023.
